JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Director of Admissions and Financial Aid is a vital team member in ensuring strong college-level enrollment at one of the world’s top music schools. The Assistant Director manages undergraduate and graduate admissions and financial aid for an assigned group of majors. This position advises students and families on application and audition processes and institutional, private, and government financial aid. Working closely with faculty, the position schedules and coordinates multiple audition days, reads and evaluates admissions applications, and recommends candidates for admission. The Assistant Director collaborates with colleagues across the conservatory and supports numerous tasks related to enrollment and financial aid.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate on all operational aspects of the Admissions and Financial Aid Office, including database management, messaging, and the overall applicant experience.
  • Represent NEC to prospective students, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors.
  • Schedule and travel to college recruitment fairs, high schools, and summer festivals.
  • Oversee candidate files for select majors. Work with applicant pool throughout process from material submission to decision to enrollment.
  • Assist with enrollment marketing communications. Ensure timely and accurate messaging to a variety of constituents including prospects, inquiries, applicants, current students, and parents.
  • Using discretion and independent judgment, counsel students and parents regarding the financial aid application process, loan repayment, student employment, and financial aid eligibility.
  • Counsel students in resolving financial aid issues. Formulate and discuss financing options based on individuals’ financial circumstances.
  • Facilitate student employment paperwork and entrance and exit counseling for students in assigned majors.
  • Create and maintain audition schedules and communicate audition and application details to applicants and faculty.
  • Coordinate prescreening recording review with faculty. Exercise independent judgment and recommend a resulting second-round applicant pool.
  • Provide leadership on audition days for student audition ambassadors. Serve as primary point of contact for assigned department faculty at auditions.
  • Maintain Admissions and Financial Aid Office pages of the NEC website.
  • Prepare reports on admissions and financial aid data as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience; previous work in a college admissions or financial aid office desirable.
  • Musical background is desirable.
  • Professional demeanor, outgoing personality, and public service-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to respect the confidentiality of students and families in accordance with current laws.
  • Strong computer skills. Knowledge of higher education specific software and databases desirable.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently under time constraints.
  • Possession of a valid drivers license and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
